- A. Students are required to complete the scheduled unit assessment requirements by the due dates and before the end date of the scheduled unit , or apply for an extension according to ALC policy.
• For 10 credit point units, you will need to complete the scheduled unit assessment requirements by the end of the scheduled unit [ie the end of the semester of enrolment]
• For 20 credit point units, you will need to complete the scheduled unit assessment requirements by the end of the scheduled unit [ie the end of the second semester from commencement] ‹ hide answer - Q. How does online learning work? show/hide answer ›
- A. Students access the equivalent of 'lectures' by working through the content on the screen.
They may be directed to read an article from their reader, which Australian Lutheran College has dispatched to them, or a textbook, which they have been asked to purchase. Interactivity between students and lecturer occurs in the discussion forums in which students are normally expected to participate.
Peer learning takes place in the forums.
Questions may be raised about the topic being studied or about future assessment tasks. ‹ hide answer - Q. What do I need? show/hide answer ›
- A. Students interested in learning online need access to a PC with the following:
* an account with an ISP to provide internet access to the website.
* 56k modem, ADSL broadband or similar - depending on the type of ISP account.
* Web browsing software

- A. Once enrolled a student receives a username and a password. Using these they can then access their online unit. The lecturer guides the student through their learning, making comments, suggesting articles to read in the reader or textbook and pointing the students to participate in the forums. ‹ hide answer

- A. On the left hand side of the screen is an icon entitled assessment tasks. Once clicked you will find the required tasks outlined as well as the assessment task purpose, task conditions (length, value, due), assessment criteria and grade level standards. ‹ hide answer

- A. Most units have four assessment tasks to complete. They may include essays, reflection papers, book reviews, case study presentations, units of work etc ‹ hide answer

- A. Most units specify required textbooks. Consult the ALC handbook for specific unit information. Details will also be found in the ‘Introduction’ on the left-hand side of the online unit screen. In Biblical Foundations, for example, they are listed in the section ‘Getting started’ ‹ hide answer
